Hall of Fame First Baseman Don Mattingly*

*That will sound great, if it comes true.
I shake my head every year when Don Mattingly does not get the necessary votes to get into the Hall of Fame. In the age of roids Don's numbers may not have compared to those of Mark McGwire, but if everyone knows that McGwire and other players were using PEDs, then why do you look at Don Mattingly's numbers and say they are not good enough? IF everyone were on the same level of play, Mattingly would be among the best first baseman of his era—and regardless of the bulky numbers put up by others, to this day you even hear those same players mention Don Mattingly as one of the best at his position and a great hitter. The Baseball Writers Association of America needs to have a mandatory head examination among all of those who don't vote for Mattingly. Im glad Jim Rice and Rickey Henderson were elected, in Rice's case, it was long overdue. Growing up and watching those horrible Yankee teams of the late 80's was not easy for many fans. Don was the true heart and soul of the team. I really hope Don gets serious consideration next year.
